Salgado: Liga first, europe later
Los Blancos strolled to the title this season, leaving every other Spanish club in their wake. Salgado is still celebrating the triumph, but he has warned not to focus too much on Europe next season, or they will forget matters closer to home.
“There is always a demand here to win the league as well as Europe every season,” Salgado told Marca.
“It’s excellent that after many years without winning, we won two league titles in a row.”
“But I fear that next season we may end up focusing too much on the Champions League and forget the reality of La Liga.”
“What comes first has to be La Liga and we have to try and win it.”
“This season we were in control of La Liga and we had no problems in winning it.”
The player also revealed that he would have liked to have played a little more and he took a swipe at bitter rivals Barcelona.
“I would have loved to have played a little more this season and it’s always important to feel a part of this group,” said Salgado.
“It’s important to savour the moment and learn from others mistakes.”
“Take Barcelona for example, they had two great years and then they had a drought and this has caused the team to collapse.”
Real will be looking to focus all their efforts in the Champions League, having failed to get as far as the quarterfinals since 2003.
